"Friday Night Fishing" is a free program designed to get families "hooked" on all that the Anacostia River has to offer. It is offered by our Board Member Anacostia Riverkeeper. NSCP funded new equipment for this wonderful program.
Anyone can join the group at Diamond Teague Park on the waterfront near Yards Park. The program is open to everyone, and it's free.
On Friday nights in the Summer months, clusters of kids gatheron the pier, excitedly testing their lines, hoping for a bite.
Friday Night Fishing happens at Diamond Teague Park, 100 Potomac Avenue SE, Washington, D.C.
The kids get plenty of help from staffers and volunteers. Professional bass fisherman Jesse Moore works with the program. Moore helped one pair of newbies untangle their lines.
Every Friday, Anacostia RiverKeeper Outreach Coordinator and NSCP Board Member Trey Sherard is out there teaching kids about the fine art of fishing and educating them about the Anacostia River.
The pilot program has really caught on and even the adults have taken part! NSCP was proud to fund new fishing equipment for this great program!
The catch and release program runs on Friday nights in the Summer.
The fishing starts at 5 p.m. and lasts until 8 p.m. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
