CSX Virginia Avenue Tunnel Mitigation Fund Awardees

CCP and The CSX Virginia Avenue Tunnel Mitigation Fund Committee 

are pleased to announce Awardees for the pro-rated portion of the $650,000 Mitigation Fund by Phase:

                                                             Awardees: Phase 2  (2/1/2016-3/15/2016)

                                                                                                                                                    

  • Jefferson Academy Middle School- To provide teachers with a classroom based writing station of 4 computers, outfit the  lab with an increased number of fully functioning laptops and provide a permanent bank of desktops in the reading intervention space.

  • Capitol Hill Garden Club- Restoration of Turtle Park, a triangular public park at the intersection of Independence and North Carolina Aves, SE, just north of historic Eastern Market.

  • Living Classrooms- Creation of the new "Floating Library" to increase literacy skills and environmental stewardship.

  • Amidon-Bowen Elementary School- Equipment for the new science lab serving PreK through 5th grade students each school year.

  • Bridges Across the RiverThe "Behind These Walls" art installation will engage residents with the rich history of the Navy Yard while encouraging residents to explore the hidden treasures of the Anacostia River.

  • Anacostia RiverKeeper-  Purchase and install permanent curb-space recycling cans in key locations within the residential neighborhood south of the freeway; and conduct community awareness campaign, the Near Southeast Community Litter Reduction Action Plan.

  • Serve Your City- Funds serving underprivileged youth in ANC 6B and 6D to support its academic, arts & aquatics programs. Serve Your City will continue its after-school and summer camp programming for underserved youth by providing tutoring/mentoring services, college preparatory services, introductory career development, arts and athletic programming.

  • Congressional Cemetery Restoration and reinstallation of the original 1856 front gate at the main entrance to the cemetery and 2 ADA compliant gates on both sides.

  • St. Augustine's Episcopal Church- To purchase appliances for the kitchen where the breakfast program operates to support the" Bread for Life" breakfast program serving  at-risk residents in the community.

  • Earth Conservation Corp (ECC)- Equipment for the "Friday Night Fishing" program at Diamond Teague Park. 

  • Friends of Winston ParkRefurbishment of Barracks Row Pocket Park, which serves as a gateway to Barracks Row for thousands of diners and shoppers, visitors for USMC Evening Parade and attendees of Washington Nationals baseball games and other community events as well as a green space for residents.

  •  Capitol Riverfront BID-  Wayfinding Signage Program to help visitors better navigate the area and locate all its great destinations.

  

  •  Resident 800 block 3rd Street SE- Temporary Inconvenience

 

  •  Van Ness Elementary School Technology and art supplies.

 

  • Garfield Park- Repair/replacement of  benches, repair/upgrade irrigation.new signage and more
